'80年代初頭に米ニューヨークで結成されたThe Force M.D.'sのルーツは、R&Bではなくヒップホップでした。

結成当初はドゥーワップとヒップホップを融合させた独自のスタイルを売りにし、グループ名もThe L.D.s, Force MCsと、何度かの改名を経た後にThe Force M.D.'sに。

'84年にアルバム『Love Letters』でデビューし、翌'85年リリースのセカンド・アルバム『Chillin'』に収録されたのが、The Force M.D.'s不動の代表曲"Tender Love"。

The Force M.D.'sが発表してきた全シングルの中で唯一となる、全米シングル・チャートTOP10入りを果たしたこのロマンティックなスロウ・ジャム"Tender Love"は、Jam & Lewisがプロデュースした楽曲でした。

そんな"Tender Love"は'86年のビルボード年間シングル・チャートでも95位にランクインし、Jam & Lewisが手がけた'80年代の男性R&Bスロウの中では、New Editionの"Can You Stand the Rain"と並ぶ名曲中の名曲ですね。
